Frankenstein Writing Routine
I love writer videos on YouTube, I used them as an excuse not to write as we all do, but I went down a rabbit hole of videos of people doing famous writer routines and let’s just say very entertaining to watch, but some were crazy 5 a.m. writing times. I can barely understand English within the first 30 minutes of waking up. That being said the attainability of them isn’t very high, but there’s this desire in us to be like those we admire so we try it word for word in hopes we will fashion ourselves into the people we admire. William Arthur Ward said:
“Blessed is he who has learned to admire but not envy, to follow but not imitate, to praise but not flatter, and to lead but not manipulate.”
I like this quote because he pointed out the thin lines that exist that we cross all the time without even knowing. How admiration can turn into jealousy in an instant. You start to say, ‘Oh, I wish I could get up at 5 a.m. and write, oh, I wish…. I wish….’ Instead of recognizing their mental fortitude and knowing that you just can’t do that and that’s okay you’re still a writer nonetheless even if you can’t get up at 5 a.m. You are still a writer. Say it with me! So, you should just ignore everyone else and do your own thing……no, that’s not what I’m saying, but learning how to do that is important. When looking at people you admire, you must learn how to clean glean.
