How to Overcome Idea Paralysis
So, what do I mean by idea paralysis? I think it’s kind of like shiny object syndrome, but instead of discarding the new shining thing you try to hoard it like a dragon because every shiny idea is great. So, you can be a monster and let it go if you want to pursue it, but you can’t pursue 50 different projects at one time. That is the downside of being creative, we always talk about writer’s block or art block, blocks, blocks, but what about a time block that stops us from pursuing all of our ideas. I wish we had more than 24 hours in a day (I say 17 because getting 7 hours of sleep is important).
Idea paralysis for me needs to be conceptualized before overcome, kind of like thoughts. I find writing down my thoughts makes them more thoughtful indeed than illusory wisps that disappear if not addressed. So, I make a list, not on my phone I get out a piece of paper and I start to capture each one of my ideas, or thoughts, and most importantly responsibilities, job, school, etc., that are non-negotiables. It’s very important you add this- they are important, create this list without them makes it an idealist list instead of a realistic one.
So let it all out, every thought. Once you have the largest list, make four boxes: one for non-negotiables, one for short-term projects, and one for long-term projects, and the last one is for things that can be put off for a good…
