Writing Relationship
Relationships are in the fabric of our existence, we were made as social creatures. Religion proves this with many of the major religion’s creation stories involving two. The Hebrew bible, the basis for many Abrahamic religions, God declared that “it is not good for man to be alone.” Brahuam, in Hindu creation split himself in two, duality is everywhere. In philosophy, the study of existence, the study of knowledge, recognizes us as social animals. Literature also, with the first story ever recorded, The Epic of Gilgamesh, emphasizes companionship. Gilgamesh was going crazy and the gods that created him were like ‘oh, it’s because he needs an equal.’
So what does that mean for writing? It’s going to take a bit of research and understanding because the things that weave any type of relationship together have a few guiding factors that can be helpful when writing.
And one of the first things to know and understand about relationships is that we need them.
We are social animals.
As Aristotle referred to us, we need others to survive and to achieve what they call in philosophy the good life.
