When we write we obviously write for the pieces of our hearts that we have inside of us. We write for us because we have something to say. And we craft everything in service of what we have to say. But there comes a point when we need to now think about our reader. Who this book is meant for and how your story is going to communicate with them. There are many ways and you don’t have to stick with the traditional linear story with all the plot points with A leading to B and B leading to C, and so on and so forth. There are more ways. What I’m getting at is there’s more than one way to tell a story obviously, but be mindful of the way you’re telling it and how it’s coming across to your reader. In stories today, they have fallen into what you’re familiar with and what is comfortable, but narratives are only limited by your imagination.

We can’t be like most people because we’re writers. We can’t get comfortable. We don’t have to make action packed movies with explosions and high drama, we can but we don’t have to.

This leads me to the communication part, we as writers have something to say as I’ve said, but what we have to say is filtered through our story. That is where the art of writing comes in.

As writers, we have something to say, yes.. But unfortunately that’s not enough, as much as I wish it was. We have to enhance our craft and learn…
